What Sin Will Do To You

(Thomas Brooks, "Apples of Gold" 1660)

"The deceitfulness of sin." Hebrews 3:13

Sin is of a penetrating nature. It pierces and
winds itself into every corner and chink

--into our thoughts, our words, and our works.

Sin will wind itself . . .
into our understandings to darken them,
into our judgments to pervert them,
into our wills to poison them,
into our affections to disorder them,
into our consciences to corrupt them,
and into our lives to debase them.

Sin will wind itself into every duty--and every
mercy; it will wind itself into every one of our
enjoyments--and concernments.
