I am a blues guitar player and a follower of Jesus. This blog is about music, especially Blues, theology, humor, culture and anything else that rolls through my brain. "The sky is crying, look at the tears roll down the street"

Since I've Laid My Burdens Down - Mississippi John Hurt
Pictures are from the Library of Congress, American Memory Project and are of various people and places in Mississippi. The dates range from 1935 - 1945.
Mississippi John Hurt had two albums of very limited success in 1928. He was later "rediscovered" in the sixties and put out or took part in a number of albums and small concerts. I think he is the sound of grace and could listen to his sing and play all day.

Missing Aretha Franklin - 1942 - 2018
It's a sad day the Queen of Soul has left this world for Heaven. Today is my 68th birthday and again a great performer has passed on. In 1977 Elvis Presley died and today Aretha Franklin has died. In my humble opinion there has never been another female singer like Aretha. Her father was a Pastor, she grew in church and she never left her faith in Jesus Christ. Steve Turner said “Judy Collins covered four stanzas and a repeated first stanza in four minutes and four seconds. Aretha took two stanzas and wrung every meaning out of them over a period of fourteen minutes.” –Steve Turner on the hymn Amazing Grace. One of her greatest performances is "Live at the Fillmore West" She also recorded many gospel albums like Amazing Grace - The Complete Recordings. Take some time and listen to Aretha today.

Stratus - Jeff Beck live at Ronnie Scott's
I just saw Jeff Beck live at DTE Engery Theater what a show. Jeff is 74 years and is one of the greatest living guitar player's. He is one of a kind. If you get a chance to see him don't miss out. He played this song only much louder than he did at this club.
