Up-close pics of famous 1960′s folksters by a teenage photojournalist - Bob Dylan, Son House, Mary Travers, Mississippi John Hurt

John Rudoff is a cardiologist in Portland, but long before he embarked on that prestigious career he had aspirations to be a photographer. As a teenager, he combined his burgeoning interest in photography and folk music by snapping photos of the acts who played at the coffee shop he worked at in Pennsylvania as well as photographing many of the acts at several festivals he had the opportunity to attend.
It seems apparent from his photos that he had no qualms edging his way to the front to get the best shot he could.
Here are a few of his pictures. Visit his page on Flickr for well over a hundred more…

The door to Hell is in Turkmenistan

In 1971, Soviet geologists drilled into a cavern of natural gas near the Turkmen village of Derweze.
The ground gave way beneath their machinery, forming a 230-foot-wide sinkhole. In order to control the emission of gas from this new aperture between us and the underworld, they decided to burn it, expecting the fire to use up the fuel in a few days.
It’s still burning today.

House-shaped tree created by extreme winds

According to the photographer who posted these pics from Denmark, this tree looks like this because,
This old pink house is situated at the old dunes, a few hundred meters from the west coast, a very windy place were there isn’t much that can grow. So the tree can only grow where it has shelter…
Wind…and maybe some pruning here and there, too. Still cool, though.

Here's a painting of NBA superstar Yao Ming I did, with some red paint and a basketball! I guess all those years of basketball training in high school did come in handy!

Satellite Image of North and South Korea

The area of the map with no light is North Korea.  The lit up part is South Korea.  Northeast of North Korea is China.  A picture says a thousand words.
