Dietrich
Bonhoeffer in a letter he wrote to his brother-in-law in 1936 said, “If it is I
who determine where God is to be found, then I shall always find a God who
corresponds to me in some way, who is obliging, who is connected with my own
nature. But if God determines where He is to be found, then it will be in a
place which is not immediately pleasing to my nature and with is not at all
congenial to me”.
The only way you can have a God who can
tell you things you don’t want to hear is if you accept that the scripture is
his word of truth. If your God always agrees with you than you have a God you have made up.
